As for the BMW as a first car at the age of 16 you are definitely taking a gamble Depending on the type of place you live, kids will get jealous of such a nice car and might vandalize it (scratch it, dent it, etc). I would be more concerned of the places you will park it for extended amounts of time more than anything.
A good alignment can dramatically change the handling characteristics of your car. We made an E46 M3 Alignment Specs Guide to list setups depending on the driving type e.g. autocross, track, etc. Once you start exploring different tracks you’ll want to change your alignment to dial in for that specific track, but this is a good baseline to start.
Again with your limited mileage and use, in good shape any 3 series will be low maintenance. If it was me I would say e46. E30 is a great project car, but if you arent looking for a project get a newer model. e36 is good too, buy one in good shape and it will be fine. But e46 still feels new and drives and looks great.

As for using regular, go ahead and use it if you have no choice, it won't hurt your car in anyway. But if you are doing it to save money, then don't.

He wants a 325ci , 330ci but i told him these car have a bad condition so i think he must buy a 2004 or 2005 316i. When he buy a car we will be doing some engine upgrade for a drifting.
The E46 BMW 3 Series is one of the most beloved cars of the past 25 years. Even if I’ve had my beef with them after owning a couple, nobody can doubt the greatness of a golden-era BMW sedan.
qn3C9Ev. The 335i twin turbo cars look like they are going cheap and tanking because of the cost of ownership. I found an E46 by accident, due to the age, it wasn't in my radar. Relatively speaking, I paid a fortune for my 2002 325i sport sedan with 89,000 ($7500). Single owner car by a BMW mechanic, pristine and at least $4000 in receipts for new parts.
It had a BMW battery that had lasted over 7 years. I stupidly replaced it with an applicable Walmart battery and within one year, I had to get the free replacement because it wouldn't hold a charge. Now one year later, the new battery is having the same problem and the parasitic draw is completely normal.
BMW E46 3 Series Starting Price: $5,000 The E90 335i is a good-looking car and a reliable one at that, and you won't find many other highly tunable European sports cars at this price. Popular
Just like the E36, the E46 had some fairly big shoes to fill in. BMW has always been good at out-doing themselves, and they did with the E46. Not only was it more luxurious, faster, and safer. But, it was only 100 lbs heavier. BMW used quite a few light weight materials and techniques to keep the weight of the E46 down.
BMW E46 M3. BMW's sweet and revvy S54 I6 engine paired with a proper M car chassis made for some delightfully slidey driving dynamics. The design is aging quite nicely and 6-speed coupes in good shape are becoming increasingly hard to come by.
The FWD to RWD is less of a jump than the actual weight difference. The corsa has similar dimensions to the e46 in width and height, so you may think that you can safely throw it around just as easy, but it is much heavier and can very easily slip and leave you in a ditch. All too common, stay careful.
is bmw e46 a good car
